Bollywood star Arjun Kapoor sustained minor injuries during an on-set accident while filming his upcoming romantic comedy, Mere Husband Ki Biwi. The incident occurred at Mumbai’s Imperial Palace, Royal Palms, during the shoot of a high-energy song sequence. A section of the ceiling unexpectedly collapsed, causing chaos on set and injuring several crew members.
The Incident
Reports suggest the collapse was triggered by vibrations from the sound system used for the sequence. While Arjun Kapoor escaped with minor injuries, other crew members were not as fortunate. A camera assistant suffered a spinal injury, and the Director of Photography (DOP) fractured his thumb. Co-producer Jackky Bhagnani, who was also present, sustained minor injuries.
Choreographer Vijay Ganguly, who was overseeing the sequence, recounted the terrifying moment:
“We were at the monitor when suddenly the ceiling came crashing down. Thankfully, it fell in parts, and a trough shielded us. Had the entire ceiling fallen, it could have been disastrous, though many still got hurt.”
Safety Concerns Resurface
The incident has reignited concerns over safety standards at older shooting locations. Ganguly highlighted the risks involved, stating:
“These old locations are often used for shoots, but the safety measures aren’t always properly verified. This incident is a stark reminder of the importance of ensuring the structural integrity of such sites.”
In response, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has reached out to Maharashtra’s Chief Minister and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), urging stricter enforcement of safety protocols on film sets.
Production Continues
Despite the setback, the production team is determined to meet the film’s February 21, 2025 release date. Directed by Mudassar Aziz, the romantic comedy stars Arjun Kapoor, Bhumi Pednekar, and Rakul Preet Singh.
Aziz, known for his feel-good entertainers, shared his excitement:
“I’ve always believed in making wholesome, relatable films that bring families together. Mere Husband Ki Biwi is lighthearted and packed with moments that stay with audiences long after they leave the theatre.”
Looking Ahead
With the production back on track, fans can look forward to this slice-of-life comedy that promises laughter, love, and drama. While the accident serves as a reminder of the challenges faced during filmmaking, it’s clear that the cast and crew’s resilience will ensure the show goes on.
Mark your calendars for February 21, 2025, and get ready to join the fun with Mere Husband Ki Biwi!
