Wamiqa Gabbi, who recently gained attention for her role in Baby John alongside Varun Dhawan and Keerthy Suresh, is rumored to be joining Ranveer Singh in a Bollywood adaptation of the iconic Indian superhero Shaktimaan.
According to a report by Mid-Day, Wamiqa Gabbi is the top contender to star in the upcoming superhero film directed by Basil Joseph, best known for his work on Minnal Murali. This ambitious project has been in development for over five years and is backed by Sony Pictures India and Sajid Nadiadwala.
A source close to the project shared with the publication that Wamiqa is being recognized for her versatile performances across Hindi and regional cinema, with additional rumors of her signing a Telugu project opposite Nani. The source revealed, “Currently, it’s all dialogue, but if the film materializes, the pairing of Wamiqa and Ranveer in Basil’s film would add fresh energy to the project that has been in the works for five years now.”
While no official confirmation has been made, insiders report that the film is still in the pre-production stage. The source noted that despite limited proficiency in Hindi, director Basil Joseph has been actively holding script readings and meetings with Ranveer Singh in Mumbai.
“Once the script is completed and final dates are worked out, this will be finalized,” the source added. Until then, Ranveer is busy wrapping up Aditya Dhar’s spy film and is expected to shift focus to the superhero project after March.
Pinkvilla previously reported that the Shaktimaan adaptation has been in the writing stage for over three years. The movie is expected to begin shooting in May 2025, with its release planned for 2026.
If finalized, the collaboration between Ranveer Singh, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Basil Joseph promises to bring a refreshing take on one of India’s most beloved superheroes, creating excitement among fans eagerly awaiting the official announcement.
